DragonCon, Book Release, and Free Story!!!

imageDRAGONCON!!!

This year, despite the absence of my wife, the abundance of masks, and the cancellations of both guests and friends, DragonCon was the best it’s been in a long time. I’m putting a brief synopsis here—I’ll put a longer, more detailed version on my website.

The best part of the weekend was meeting up with my ever expanding collection of DragonCon friends. I was joined once again by Donnie, who came to his first DragonCon in 2019. Though many other friends couldn’t make it, we had a great time with all the ones who did. We caught up, we plotted new writing projects, we played some hilarious RPG’s, and we argued the origins of civilization. Ask Mark Wandrey, Brent Roeder, or Monalisa Foster some time, the discussion is way better than it sounds. An all around great time with my Con friends.

We got to a good number of panels, though roughly half of the ones I wanted to. Building and Breaking Your Characters (I met Michael Stackpole, one of my all-time favorite authors), Military Sci-Fi Writers and Creators, Biology in Space, Future Weapons, and It’s the End of the World as We Know It, just to name a few. We were subjected to a few packed rooms and some too-long lines, but I’m happy with what I got to. Expectations management is huge, and I’ve been attending DragonCon long enough to know you can only do so much. I was honored to be on the No Kidding There I Was panel again. This year was the character edition. I told the story of Unshackled (releases 1 October) from the perspective of Alvin the Flatar. I also told the true to life story of the Gnome Wars, an actual event from a Djibouti deployment. The other stories were awesome as always.

For major events, we made the Voltaire concert and the Rocky Horror Picture Show (Donnie was a RHPS virgin, but alas they did not do virgin sacrifices). The biggest event was my participation in the DragonCon parade. It was my second time in the parade, but my first time marching with the color guard. I represented the Four Horsemen and acted as one of the rifle bearers next to the US flag. It was an incredible honor.

Loki was the costume of the Con this year. The variant concept meant that some Loki horns and a touch of green could turn any costume into a Loki costume. In particular, Gator Loki was seen in abundance. Another notable one was a guy carrying a giant Evergreen shipping boat, who went around blocking traffic routes (just long enough to be funny). For my part, I stuck to my tried and true kilts, my Mal Reynolds costume, a Four Horsemen uniform, and… <drum roll> this year I debuted the Mandalorian helmet and chest plate that Joel Ascol made for me. It’s awesome.

As I said, this was meant to be the quick and dirty (but clean) after action. For the in-depth look at the Great Shirt Odyssey, the Tale of Commodore Alvin, and the World’s Introduction to Buff Orpington, action hero, I’ll be posting the longer version to my website post haste (www.caseymoores.net). Even with all the complications, it truly was a DragonCon for the history books.

Mess With the Bull release!

It's finally happened, this Friday I officially go from one hit wonder to repeat offender. Pick it up 10 September.image

The forces that destroyed the Intergalactic Haulers now seek to destroy their more secretive counterpart—Bull and his black ops rescue company. Earth’s first Peacemaker becomes aware of the shadow that’s loomed over her shoulder for most of her life. A Human mercenary unit is trapped and abandoned—betrayed like so many others at the start of the Omega War. Another mercenary unit is captured and given a choice—fight for their captors or die. A Hunter and her companion, her former target, follow a path of vengeance. All are about to collide in a vast metropolis. The masterminds of the clandestine conspire to crush Bull and his company with no concern for the destruction they’ll cause. Whose strategies, tactics, and contingencies will triumph? Who, if anyone, will survive?

Beyond that, I've been entered into some new author showcases. Although you wonderful people are already on my mailing list, check out some of these author showcases and I believe it's the current best way to receive my free 4HU story "Blind Fury", which examines what happens when a Depik is contracted to kill a blind samurai (Why is a blind samurai in the Four Horsemen universe, you might ask? Read the story and find out.) Juicy extra detail- those characters return in the above mentioned novel, Mess With the Bull.

In any event, check out the showcases and give some other wonderful authors a try. Just so log as you come back to me at some point <smile>.
