Working on your shooting efficiency is huge when trying to elevate your game, and we all know the best way to become a better shooter is to put in that extra work and get in the gym.

But what’s the best way to use your time? When it comes to shooting drills, there are thousands of different drills out there, but it can be hard to choose what to focus on. Here are 5 types of drills to add to your next practice:

#1 Floater and Shooting Touch

The floater is a great option for shooting over long defenders and getting the ball off quick, and being able to make this shot when being guarded is a good skill to have. Working on shooting touch will only make easy shots easier, and increase shooting percentages around the rim. Check out this shooting drill from Jalen Wilson, recent NBA Brooklyn Nets draftee, and Kansas University grad.

#2 Fadeaway

The fadeaway is another great shot to use against long defenders. Being able to create space between you and your defender will give you the advantage and create a better shot. Learn from Marcus Sasser, recent NBA Detroit Pistons draftee, on his tips and tricks to master this skill.

#3 Pin Down Sprint Aways

Implementing game-like shots can improve shot percentage tremendously. Shooting on the move and with tempo simulates shots that may be taken during the game. Practicing movements that may be seen in the flow of offense gives players an advantage over shooting in-place shots. Check out this game-like shooting drill from UCONN assistant Coach Kimani Young.

#4 Thompson Drill

Designed from Klay Thompson himself, this drill is the ultimate drill for creating pressure. Shooting under pressure simulates pressure that can sometimes be felt during games, and doing this type of drill can help better prepare players for those important shots, and take average shooters to great shooters. Check out this great shooting drill from Coach Christa.

#5 As Fast As You Get in Get Out

This drill focuses on the concept of offensive movement and continuing movement after the pass in order to keep the flow of offense. Simulating multiple passes to get the best shot mimics the ideal movement while also practicing shots on the move. Check out this movement shooting drill from Saint Joseph University’s Coach Billy Lange.
