Pick and Roll Defense from Coach Brian Adams

Coach ,
Former 76ers Assistant Coach Brian Adams and current head coach of Taipei Taishin Marswas has been known to be a basketball mastermind and defensive genius all around the league.
Here are some defensive ideas on how to stop Heat’s Pick and Roll action this season:
Aggressive Rotation After Coverage
When you are aggressive on the ball in Pick and Roll situations, you ALWAYS need to have aggressive help. The help needs to come from your Low Man and cover the first pass - to interrupt the flow of the offense. When you go to Drop after the Pick and Roll action, your low man needs to step back and be ready to cover the weak side to kick out to the wing.

Late Emergency Switch: Veer Back
When we guard the ball handler after Pick and Roll, we want the big man to be ready to challenge the possible shot, but we also need him to react and stop the drive if the ball handler tries to attack the rim - but this also leaves the roll man wide open. Therefore it’s important that our guard can react and guard the pass to the roll man.

Deny the Middle on the Side Pick and Roll
Denying and Icing on the Side Pick and Roll is going to work really well for when on shooting a big man will be setting the screen, as there is no threat to Pick and Pop after the guard is forced to drive up the lane.
This will work excellently against Bam Adebayo as the screen man and takes pressure off the help side defense. Watch Coach Adams break down Side Pick and Roll Ice here:
