Defense wins Championships

Tonight we will be taking a deep dive on the defensive side of the ball. In particular the importance of defending 3-point shots. In today’s game the analytics say the 3 best shots on offense are:

  1. Free Throw Attempts
  2. Shots inside the charge circle
  3. Uncontested Rhythm 3-point attempts

During our deep dive on defense the common theme was defending the 3-point shot and finding the shooter’s in transition. So we picked a few clinics we conducted that will take you on a deeper dive on the subject.

In this video clip from George Washington Coach Chris Caputo covers top priorities in transition defense when he was with Miami:

  1. Protect the basket
  2. Stop the ball
  3. Locate 3-point shooters
  4. Load to ball side
  5. Up with trailer for ball screen defense
