Win Games with 3 Late Shot Clock ⏰ Actions

Cody Toppert’s resume is impressive. He has worked with coaches such as Mike D'Antoni, Igor Kokosov, Chris Finch and Penny Hardaway.
Toppert spent 2018-2019 as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns. He was also the head coach for the Haitian Men’s National Team and former NBA G-League Head Coach.
Currently, he is one of the top assistants in college basketball working for the University of Memphis Men’s Basketball Team.
Coach Toppert is known in the business as being an offensive-minded guru.
One of the hardest areas to score in basketball is when the shot clock runs down below 12 seconds. Teams that can execute late in the shot clock are tough to beat.
Coach Toppert breaks down 3 actions that can help improve your offense when the shot clock is low.
#1 - Maydays
A mayday consists of an emergency within the offense where the shot clock reaches 8 seconds or under.
Memphis looks to fill the corners in this situation and have 2 guards in the slot with one with the basketball. The player with the basketball waits while the other guard in the slots runs at him and sets a ghost screen.
The ball handler then flies off that screen looking to attack.
The offense is looking for the defense to mess up and have a scenario where there are 2 players on the basketball leaving a player open.

#2 - Flash Game
The Flash Game is a late clock method that flashes the big up to come up and get into a DHO game.
The set up consists of the corners filled with the 2 guards in the slots. The key to the Flash Game is having the court properly spaced. The big man will race up to an elbow for the catch.
The guard then has different rules on how to get open including: cut to the basket, zoom action, get action/zero cut and the split action.

#3 - Zoom Action
The Zoom Action is becoming more and more prevalent in every level of basketball.
A zoom action consists of the big running up to the ball and the ball handler throwing them the ball and then running into the DHO. It is a very good action to run in a late clock situation.
A random zoom is a great action because the defense is not expecting it. This is an action that players can do randomly within the offense.
The zoom action puts a lot of pressure on the big to defend multiple players within the possession.

Teams that perform well late in the shot clock are hard to beat. Offensive execution usually gets harder as the shot clock gets lower because defenses lock in.
Having a plan under a certain amount of seconds can really help your offense go from good to great.
Championship Level teams find ways to execute in the play after the play.
