A lot of teams use the show and recover method to defend the ball screen. 

You need to have various ways to punish and prevent your opponent from employing this defensive tactic to slow down your pick and roll attack.

Let’s take a look at a couple ways you can prevent or punish this method of defending the ball screen.

1. Ram Screens and Wedge Screens (Screening actions prior to the ball screen taking place to not allow the player to show)
2. Mailman Exception (Arriving at the same time as the show to bait them into the coverage you want and to manipulate the coverage you want)

I really liked how Coach McMains breaks down using a ram screen and how it doesn’t allow the defender to use the “show method” to defend the ball screen.
