Building Your Transition Offense Through Your Passing

Coach ,

Legendary Coach Kermit Davis had Ole Miss as one of the best transition offensive teams in the country according to Synergy Sports when he was there.

A huge part of their success is because of the ability of his players to pass the basketball ahead in transition.

Here are 3 of Favorite Passing Drills:

#1 - Left & Right Hand Passing Drill

This is a drill that Ole Miss does almost every single day.

A lot of coaches don't believe in one-hand passes.

Coach Davis is a firm believer in making one-hand passes on time and on target.

He believes these practices should be practiced with the dominant and non-dominant hand.

#2 - Partner Passing & Footwork Drill

The partner passing & footwork drill is a full-court drill that works on multiple offensive fundamentals.

The goal is to get the players to work on the proper footwork to make passes off of shot fakes, jumpstops and on the move.

Coach Davis is constantly getting on the players to make sure each pass is on time and on target.

#3 - Pocket Passing Drill

The Pocket Passing Drill is designed to work on tight passes off the move.

This is a really good drill for post players to learn how to relocate on drives to read where the pass should come from.

The drill has a manager or coach with a pad making the finishes hard at the basket.

This is a drill that should be part of an everyday offensive routine.

Michael Jordan once said: “Get the fundamentals down and everything else you will do will rise.”

Passing is a fundamental that should be worked on every single day.

Thank you Coach Kermit Davis for sharing 5 great passing drills to add to an everyday routine.
