Coach ,
UCLA is fresh off a trip to the NCAA Final Four.
A big part of UCLA’s success was their ability to create second-shot opportunities which resulted from rebounds. Darren Savino, assistant coach for UCLA, describes Offensive Rebounding as a Mentality.
A player has to have the Mentality that they are going to attack the glass and get the rebound.
Here are 3 techniques that UCLA teaches to create an advantage to get a rebound and create that mentality.
#1 - Swim Move
The swim move technique is a great rebounding technique to gain inside position.
It consists of a subtle push to gain the advantage to rebound. Then the player will use his/her arm to swim over the top.
The player then uses their body to drive the player back for a rebounding position.

#2 - Spin Out
The spin-out technique is a great rebounding position for players when the offensive and defensive players are back-to-back.
The spin-out then happens by the player who is going for the rebound spins either direction quickly.
This will allow the player to get in front of the player to create a blockout situation.

#3 - Wedge
The wedge technique is great for players who can get low and create the initial contact.
A player should head hunt and create contact with the opposing player to drive that player out of rebounding position.
This is a really good technique for guards flying in the lane to rebound against players standing.

Rebounding is such a crucial part of the game of basketball the mentality couple with techniques will help you win a lot of games.
Coach Savino’s clinic on Offensive Rebounding teaches the techniques and mentality it takes to be a good rebounding team.
Thank you to Coach Savino for a great clinic.
