As coaches, we can use game film and reflective thinking to review our decision-making process.
So how can we help our players on a daily basis improve their decision making skills?
Louisiana Tech head coach Eric Konkel shares a series of team drills used by his staff to work on decision-making in his course Offensive Decision Making. In this clip, Coach Konkel gives a quick overview of the drills.
Using small-sided games (SSGs) are another method for helping players make decisions both with the ball and away from the ball in a team setting. Coach Mike De Kraker shows a fun way to work on decision-making by playing a game of Battleship! in Developing SSG for Youth Development
One decision that players make with the ball constantly in the game is when to shoot it or drive it against a defender closing out on the ball. In his course SSG's for Player Development and Team Offense, Coach Tony Miller shows how they drill this decision with the individual players in a 1v1 setting.
