As the game continues to favor perimeter scoring, winning still comes down to two things:

1. Getting to the free-throw line

2. Scoring in the paint

Whether you have the next Victor Wembanyama or Brittney Griner or not, you can still dominate the middle.

The mark of a great coach is making optimal advantage of the players at his disposal.

One coach who has mastered coaching the undersized player is Coach Christian Mueller.

In his first four years coaching in college, five of his post players were recognized as 1st-Team All-Conference.

The four methods that he uses to teach his post-players are the following:

  1. Getting Open
  2. Staying Open
  3. Safely Receiving
  4. Scoring Simply

In this clip below Coach Mueller breaks down the power move position and I really like how he teaches this to his players to protect the ball from being stripped in the post. This is an important skill to master no matter the size of your players.

In this next clip Coach Mueller teaches a drill to work on their Power Move Position with his players.

The “Chin and In” technique taught by Coach Mueller is crucial to learn for your players to protect the ball from the weak side defenders coming to swipe at the ball.
