Coach ,
On Friday, the D2 Women’s championship will be held and there is a team playing that is familiar with winning championships competing for another one: Lubbock Christian University
Coach Steve Gomez and his team won the title in 2016 and 2019. Since taking over the LCU program in 2003, Coach Gomez has guided the program from the NAIA to one of the top women's programs in D2.
There is a quote that says “Success leaves clues”
Fortunately we have some clues to follow with 2 clinics from Coach Gomez
In Coaching Versatility, Coach Gomez free clinic gives you insight into the how and why’s of the LCU program and the foundational pieces.
Check out the clip below where Coach Gomez discusses the importance of having versatility within your team.
In addition, Coach Gomez covers some of their basic offensive philosophy including transition, out of bounds and half court offense.
If you want a deeper dive into Coach Gomez’s offense, Circle Offense breaks down their half court offense, which combines ball screens along with flare actions to create scoring opportunities for guards and post.
Here, Coach Gomez discusses the importance of recognizing what to do when the ball handler drives baseline.
Coach Gomez also covers various reads on both the ball screen and flare screen, along with special plays you can run that compliment the offense.
What I like about the Circle Offense is the versatility you have within it to allow your players strengths to be fully utilized within the offensive flow.
Enjoy another exciting weekend of basketball.
