March Madness is one of the best months in all of sports.
This year, the NCAA Tournament was filled with a lot of upsets - and a lot of really good basketball.
FAU and San Diego State both made the final four as underdogs – and UConn dominated the tournament.
The tournament brought on a lot of unique offensive sets from common offensive actions.
Here are 3 actions from the 2023 NCAA Tournament
Pick and Roll Sets

The pick and roll has dominated basketball in the last decade.
In this set, Creighton looks to exploit the high tag.
The high tag causes the roll man to have an open run at the basket.
This puts the defender in a pickle of whether to tag the roll man or stay with the shooter.
Hand Off Sets

The hand off has become a great way to get your ball handler downhill against a big.
This has become one of the hardest actions to guard in basketball.
Louisiana uses Tennessee’s defensive scheme to not switch against them.
This allows the guard from Louisiana to get downhill to make plays.

The 2023 Naismith Player of the Year was a big man.
In the tournament, every team had to use deception and timing to get their big man the ball.
Purdue did a great job getting that done to get the ball to Zach Edey.
As you can see, the attention to detail by Purdue in their screening and timing is exceptional.

P.S. Thank you to coach Kostas Kalogeropoulos for putting the work in and sharing. These were taken from his 2023 NCAA Tournament Playbook is over an hour long and filled with some of the best actions in basketball.
The playbook also comes with PDF diagrams of each set – and filled with everything from BLOB to iso sets.
