Special Situations are one of the best ways to get an open look in the game of basketball. The top teams usually score very efficiently in special situations: BLOB & SLOB.

According to Synergy Sports, the Men’s National Champion Baylor Bears and the Women’s National Champion Stanford Cardinals were ranked as Excellent in BLOB situations - one of the top teams in the nation. It shows how BLOB’s can help a team’s success.

The offensive execution from overseas leagues have been the talk of basketball for decades. Coaches all over the country are always amazed by the ball movement, cutting, spacing, & execution performed by the teams from overseas and they are doing new creative concepts within their BLOB sets. 

In the 2021 Euroleague, there were many end of game & after time-out BLOB sets to create shot, post up position or Pick & Roll situation.

Here are the top 3 BLOB sets from the 2021 Euroleague

#1 Barcelona - FT Line Quick 3

The Barcelona FT Line Quick 3 BLOB set gives a team a chance to get an open shot.

The play starts with 4 across the free-throw line. 

Two players will then X off the line. That is followed by a shooter coming off a pin down at the top of the screen. (click on image for video)

#2 Baskonia - Spain Pick and Roll

The Baskonia Spain Pick and Roll is a really good set to get your PG into a quick pick and roll situation off the in bounds. 

The PG will take the ball out -- and the ball ends up in the hands of the big around the top of the key area. The PG will sprint for a handoff and then you’re in the Spain Pick and Roll. 

A Spain Pick and Roll is when a player is coming off a pick and roll and then another player back screens the original pick and roll screener. Then that player will pop after back screening and the big will roll to the basket. (click on image for video)

#3 Olympiacos - Short Shot Clock Hoax

The Olympiacos Short Shot Clock Hoax set is a misdirection set designed to trick the defense.

The set is looking to catch a defender getting confused by switching situations.

The play is designed for the big to get a quick layup by catching the defense sleeping. (click on image for video).
