Coach ,
The Hammer Action was made famous by the 2000’s San Antonio Spurs.
It has been used overseas for many years and is one of the most used actions for a special situation.
A Hammer Action consists of a baseline drive while a big is setting a hammer screen for a shooter coming off to the corner on the weak side.
The Hammer Action is used after a timeout or if a team needs a quick 3 point shot.
Here are 3 Hammer Actions to add to your playbook:
#1 - Zalgris - Hammer Set
The Zalgris Hammer Set is a very quick action looking to catch a team by surprise.
The set is a naked side roll and replacement action that gets a guard downhill quickly.
At the same time, the loaded side corner is setting a hammer screen for a shooter.

#2 - Spurs Hammer Special
The Spurs Hammer Special is a quickhitter misdirection set.
The set starts with the reversal man cutting to the ball side corner while the guard comes to the top of the key to receive the basketball.
The guard is then met with a ball screen from the big.
Once the guard comes off -- the hammer screen is set on the backside.

#3 - Zalgris - T Game Hammer
The T-Game Hammer action is a wrinkle to the T-Game alignment.
.
The guard is met with a quick ball screen into a weak side hammer screen.
This is a great set to have within a pressure release portion in a playbook.

The Hammer action is a must add addition to a playbook.
If you’re looking to catch a defense by surprise there is no better set to get the defense in shambles.
This is one of the best ATO quick 3 sets in basketball.
