5 ATO Plays Every Coach Should Be Using

,

This week I am focused on developing some ideas for future ATO plays for my teams.

If you are not familiar with the concepts of ATO, these are special plays and actions teams run after time outs or can also be run in a dead ball situation. Typically, the plays are designed to get a specific player an open shot or it’s a counter to a play being ran based on how the defense has been guarding the action or based on a scouting report..

Here are a few ATOs that I like.

Coach Luka Bassin breaks down a play from Euroleague powerhouse Fenerbahce in this clip being run from a sideline situation for a 3.

Zak Boisvert discusses the use of ghost screens and how this is an effective counter vs. teams who like to switch ball screens.

G League coach Jimmy Bradshaw shares some ATOs designed for a good shooter in this clip.

Another top coach from Europe, Aito Garcia Reneses uses a pin down screen for his post in this action.
