4 Sets to Supercharge Your Offense from Utah State's Coach Ryan Odom

Dec 17, 2021 1:44 am

Coach Ryan Odom has Utah State scoring at a high clip, including 80+ points in 8 of their 11 games.

Here are 4 sets from Ryan Odom’s top 50 ranked offense according to Kenpom.

#1 - Blur

Blur is a double gap play to get a guard downhill.

It is a simple set that is very effective for teams that have good driver/iso players.

The play puts the defensive in a tough situation by placing a shooter in the corner on the drive.

#2 - Euro 2

Coach Odom borrowed this play from the Slovenian National Team.

If you love split action, this is a good set to add to your playbook.

The play is designed to space the floor and get into a spread ball screen.

The play works best if there are good shooters on the floor.

#3 - Clip

Clip is a set that is used if you have a good shooting 4-man.

The play happens fast because the 4 sprints up and ghost screens the ball screen.

The hope is to get the defense to mess up the switch leaving the 4-man open for a 3-point opportunity..

This is also very good to use in the late clock or late in the game.

#4 - Catfish

Catfish is an iso set to pick on a poor defender.

It is used to lift the floor to get the corner man into a 1-on-1 position off a quick swing pass.

This is a clever counter to a 1-5 ball screen.

If you have a good iso player then this will give the player a lot of open space to make a play.

Coach Odom's offense uses deception, misdirection and iso situations to attack defenses.

Utah State is doing a great job of playing to their players' strengths on offense.
