Hi there ,
Last week I was at a train station, watching news stories on an information screen when I got a shock! There had been an accident with a crane in Bockenheim - it had fallen on a building where people lived. The story said that no-one was hurt (definitely good!), but I was worried - was it along my street? Was it my building?
The area across the road from me is a big building site. There are three tall cranes directly in front of my apartment and more further along the street. Had one of these fallen?

Walking home from my Underground stop, everything looked normal and all the cranes seemed to be standing (but it was dark, so maybe I'd missed something).
I checked online and learned the crane was on a truck, like the ones below. Seeing the picture on the news webpage, it was clear it wasn't even my street.
Although not near my place, I saw a crane that had fallen over years ago in Australia. But back in October, I had a new (exciting?) experience here in Germany.
They found a World War Two bomb and we had to leave by 9:00 in the morning (the first time I've had to evacuate). The bomb wasn't super close to my place and the guys who disarm those old bombs have a good record. The only time I've heard of one going off was when the construction workers didn't know the bomb was there until they hit it and set it off.
However, it was a little unsettling, leaving home and wondering if I'd have somewhere to sleep that night...
One thing I found curious was that no-one knocked on my door and made sure that I knew I had to leave bright and early the next day. It was during my holiday and I was home before any note went up. I saw the note as I headed out (way before 9:00 a.m., thankfully) on one of my day trips π―.
Have you had things happen to (or near) the place you live? A vehicle drive into the building? A bomb go off? Have you had to evacuate for some reason? Please hit reply and tell me all about it ...
All the best (stay away from bombs and things!),
Andrea
