How much stuff do you need, {{contact.first_name}}?

Hey ,

We all see things advertised everywhere we look. On the internet, in the street, on TV... We're told that the things being advertised will make our lives so much better. Or easier. So we go and buy these things.

But how much 'stuff' do we really need?

Back in Australia, I had a house full of stuff! There were things in the kitchen some of which I never used. I had heaps of books (novels (1), information books and university books).

Plus over the years I bought things like camping (2) gear, things from Indonesia, photography gear, the list goes on.

A year or two before I left, I bought extra shelves to put things on. I quickly filled them up...

Then there're consumable items - things we buy to use until they're gone. New food products, for example.

But we don't completely use them - they sit in our cupboards half empty.

Cleaning products are another example. There's a huge range!

I don't spend too much time in the cleaning products aisle of the supermarket or drug store. However I have recently become aware of how many of these products people buy. One of the people who lives in my building has about 12 products on their washing machine 😳.

Maybe we need more than just soap, but do we really need that number of products?!

It was a great feeling to reduce what I had and land in Germany with only a backpack full of (mainly) clothes. True, I've bought things, but I try and be careful. I think about whether I really need something.

I thought I was doing well. When I moved recently I felt pleased with the small number of boxes I used.

But clearly there's still room for improvement.

Here it is, two months later and I still have boxes on my floor. Things that I don't have room for. Or don't use (some were packed the whole time I was in my old flat!). Guess I need to throw some things away...

What do you think, ? Do you buy things you think will be a good idea, but then you don't use them? Are you careful and don't fill your house (or flat) with lots of things? Please tell me how you keep the amount of things you have at a good level.

'Bye for now,

Andrea

(1) novels - 'stories'. Books that are fiction, not fact (or true/'real').

(2) camping - 'living' away from houses, often in a tent ⛺
