Hello again,
Can I share something with you that happened to me a couple of weeks ago?
I went to the bakery, my favourite bakery, to buy a loaf of bread. The assistant who served me wasn't one of the regular staff, he is a new guy who hasn't been working in the shop that long.
He got the bread and sliced it, like I had asked him to. He gave me the bread and I gave him a €10 note. He gave me some change and I walked off (but not very far).
Then I counted my change. It wasn't correct, in fact it was less than two thirds of what it should have been. I walked back to the store...
The ladies who were next let me into the front of the line. The young man finally started serving again. When I explained the problem, he got some coins out, but I had to tell him the amount he needed to give me.
So a few minutes later, I was on my way again, this time with the right change.
Was I too hard on the new assistant? Should I have excused his mistake because he was new? Questions like this came to me as I thought about the situation later. I don't think I would have worried about it if he had only got it wrong by a few cents, however, I was annoyed when it was a couple of euros.
How do you react when a shop assistant gives you the wrong change? Do you ask them to fix it, or just ignore it?
I would love to hear your thoughts on any of these questions.
Until next week,
Andrea
P.S. When I got home and used the bread, I found that the last 'slice' was REALLY thick (6 cm to be exact - I measured it!).
P.P.S. The same guy has served me twice more since this took place and both times there was no problem (although the last time, I gave him the right money).
