Hello ,
When I first arrived in Germany, I tried to visit a new Christmas Market each year.
I didn't do that for a few years, but I started doing it again a couple of years ago.
That's how I found Seligenstadt. The Christmas Market was a lovely surprise. But for me, it wasn't just the Christmas Market - the city may be small, but it is truly amazing.
This year, I was thinking about which Christmas Market I should visit, and suddenly I had the idea to go to Nuremberg.
Although I like the idea of Christmas Markets (the twinkling (1) lights and smell of mulled wine (2) and sugar-coated nuts make it special), I don't like being in crowds.
I think I told you I thought I should visit Heidelberg, but I didn't want to, because of the crowds of foreign tourists that everyone talked about. (Note: I finally visited Heidelberg at a time when there was only a small number of tourists and had a great day.)
It's the same with the Nuremberg Christmas Market. It's really well-known, but that means a lot of people visit it. So, I've never been for a look. But this year, that's going to change.
I've put a plan together and booked everything for not just one new Christmas Market, but two! I'll leave Frankfurt and spend some time at the Nuremberg Market, then continue on to Munich and stay in a hotel there. (I've done better research on this hotel than I did for the one in Nancy! Hopefully it'll be a far nicer experience.)
In Munich, I'll visit the Christmas Market. However, I also have a shop or two on my list. Then I'll catch a train back to Frankfurt.
It should be a good couple of days. I'm learning that most Christmas Markets have very similar stalls. However, because I'm over the border (3) in Bavaria, there might be a couple of things that are different.
And finally, I'll be able to say that I've visited the Nuremberg Christmas Market.
Have you visited the Nuremberg Christmas Market, ? Is it special? Or is it just famous, but the same as every other Christmas Market? Do you have a favourite Christmas Market, ?
Enjoy your week, and any Christmas Markets you visit.
Andrea
(1) twinkling - shining brightly and then not so brightly
(2) mulled wine - wine that is warmed and has spices added
(3) border - the line between countries or states. The edge of an area.
