Hi there ,
I remember I was on a trip with a friend.
We were walking back to a shopping centre, but it was 2-3 km away. A bit in front of us was a bus stop and there should have been a bus at about that time. The problem was I didn't know if the bus was on its way or had already gone past.
Because of not knowing, I didn't say anything to my friend. But when I suddenly saw the bus appear, I started to run so that it would stop.
My poor friend!
She didn't know about the bus so she was walking along, talking to me. Well, she thought she was talking to me, but when she looked up, I wasn't there. (That's what she said, but I'm not a super-athlete). It took her a moment to understand where I'd gone.
I bought tickets for both of us so she only had to get on the bus.
Last Sunday, it wasn't me running for the bus - it was some young guys.
I was on the bus. It was moving between stops when suddenly I saw the three teenagers running. Not just jogging, but running really hard.
One ran on a different path and was ahead of the other two. Maybe he could get near enough to the next bus stop for the driver to pull over (1).
The bus had to pause at an intersection, so they moved ahead a bit. However, we soon caught up to them and they were not close to the next official stop!
But it was Sunday, and the bus was on time. The driver must have been in a good mood (2) because (amazingly!) he beeped the horn (3), pulled over, and opened the doors.
They quickly got on and thanked the driver.
I couldn't help myself - I had a big smile on my face and was trying not to laugh as they walked down the aisle (4). One of them saw, but he didn't care. He was smiling, too!
So, , have you ever had to run to catch a bus, tram or train? Did you make it or were you left behind? Have you seen others nearly miss their ride? Feel free to share any stories....
Hope you don't have to run for any buses (or trains!),
Andrea
(1) pull over - move the vehicle (car, bus, truck etc) to the side of the road and stop
(2) be in a good mood - feel happy
(3) beep the horn - press a button so the vehicle makes a 'beep' sound to warn people or other vehicles about something
(4) the aisle - the narrow walking space between the seats on the left hand side and right had side of a bus/plane/train
