It's strawberry season again and I don't care

In supermarkets, at market stalls, they're everywhere!

Hello again,

We are now at the end of May, or we could say, in late spring, so, it is officially strawberry season. Around the city, growers have put up little stalls. These stalls aren't part of a market, they are there selling farm-fresh, locally-grown strawberries.

Most people like eating strawberries - not just adults, children, too. The bright red colour with the bit of green at the top, the classic 'berry' shape and the flavour, that sweet 'strawberry' flavour. Are you getting hungry for a big bowl full?

You don't have to eat them directly from the little box (punnet), you can cook with them, too. You can even extend strawberry season by making jam which you can eat when the weather gets cold later in the year.

Or, you can use them to decorate something sweet. Whole or halved strawberries look great on top of a cake or dessert. For something extra special, you can dip them in chocolate first.

So why don't I care that the time for fresh strawberries is here? Because I don't understand why they are so popular πŸ˜‘.

Let me first admit - I have eaten strawberries. I have picked strawberries and eaten them raw. I have cooked with strawberries and made strawberry jam. One season back in Australia, one of my sisters worked on a strawberry farm and a couple of days before Christmas she brought me a box full of them, 14 kg to be exact!

At some point I thought about what I was eating. Yes, a shiny red strawberry looks really delicious. But when I put it in my mouth and start chewing, I feel disappointed. The fruit is refreshing, but watery and without much taste. To me it's a waste of time and money - not unpleasant, but not something that I need to do everytime strawberry season comes around.

I know, others disagree. You may be one of them. You can't understand how anyone could choose not to eat strawberries, how I can say that they have very little flavour, how I am uninterested in strawberry season and can totally ignore the strawberry stalls I see every day.

Let me know your views. Do you think I'm crazy? Are you also someone who doesn't eat strawberries? If you just love them, how do you eat them? Fresh? With cream? Dipped in chocolate?

Have a fantastic day (with or without strawberries πŸ˜‰)

'Bye,

Andrea

P.S. I'm so glad that cherry season is just about here πŸ˜‹
