Dear ,
A lot of people like everything 'as soon as possible'. Generally, we don't like waiting and the Internet has made things even worse - if a web page doesn't load in under three seconds, we lose interest and go to another website instead.
As a rule, children are worse. Sometimes there are good reasons for waiting, but due to their age, they don't understand. Waiting until you have washed your hands or until after dinner, or 'when we get home' seems too long (or just not important) when you are a young child.
This is especially true when it comes to food.
I remember when I was a child we weren't given lollies (1) and other sweet treats so often. Mum always had homemade cakes and biscuits for us, but she rarely bought things like that from a shop.
So I would make any time we did get something special last as long as possible.
Often I would eat a small part when we were given the treat, but I would leave enough for another time. Maybe even for several days.
There was even the time, when I was in my early twenties that I saved a chocolate Easter egg. It was quite a large egg. For some silly reason (because it looked nice?), I kept it in my flat for a few years - and I didn't keep it in the fridge (2)!
When I finally decided to eat it five or more years later, it tasted terrible! (I didn't eat all of it, just one piece was enough!)
Well, a couple of weeks ago I gave a friend a few things for her young son. One of the things was a lolly on a stick - kind of a little lollipop (3).
I was shocked last week when she messaged me with a picture of him about to eat it. Not shocked at the picture, but at her words - he had saved it until that day!
He saved it! He's almost four years old! I was totally amazed 😲.
How about you, ? Do you think it's hard to save something (maybe food, or maybe buying something you want) for another time, or do you have to have it now? Are you better at this now you're older, or are you worse, because you are the boss and there's no-one to tell you 'No!'?
Hit 'Reply' and tell me when you have saved something for later.
Enjoy the (summer?!) weather 😑,
Andrea
(1) lollies - general Australian word for sweets, candy etc. (including Haribo ...)
(2) fridge - short form for 'refrigerator', the place where you keep things like milk and butter cool.
(3) lollipop - candy (or lolly) on a stick that you lick or suck, for example, a Chupa Chups.
