G'day ,
As I've said before, I'm a person of routine. When I do something that works for me, I repeat it again and again.
Several years ago someone told me about a shop to buy sewing things from. Things like zippers, cotton, buttons, and pins (1).
I had already found a shop that sold these things, but I wasn't completely happy. The problem was the shop assistants.
No - I'll say that again. I wasn't happy with some of the shop assistants. Some were excellent. They were helpful, gave good advice, and were just really pleasant.
But there were a couple that I didn't like. Clearly, we had different ideas and tastes when it came to the things you need to finish a garment (2).
When I heard about the second shop, I went for a look.
The things they sold were very similar to the first shop, and they definitely had everything I would ever need.
Also, the lady who usually served me was lovely - I didn't need to worry about who would or wouldn't be there.
Last week I went there to buy buttons for a skirt I'm sewing.
All of the buttons were still there, but when I looked around, a heap of the other shelves were empty.
There weren't any cottons or zippers. A lot of other things were missing, too.
Maybe they were moving - another shop very close to this one had a sign saying it was about to move to another place. So I asked the young shop assistant what was going on.
She gave me the bad (sad 😥) news - they were closing.
The only upside (3) was the discount they had on everything. I bought something extra that I knew I needed because it was half-price!
I found news about them closing very sad. It was good having two similar shops in the city; if one didn't have exactly what I wanted, often the other one would.
So now I need to change my routine and use the other shop again 😑.
How about you, ? Do you have problems moving to something new? What do you do when a shop you often go to closes?
Enjoy your week,
Andrea
(1) zippers, cotton, buttons and pins - things you need for sewing. Zippers are often called 'zips' - they have a sliding thing that opens and closes the zip. Cotton is the thread ('string?') you use to sew with. It's very fine. Pins are the little (fine!) pieces of metal with a point at the end that you use to hold the material in the right place so you can sew.
(2) garment - general word for something we wear. A piece of clothing.
(3) upside - good thing, bonus, advantage
