Hello ,
It's sad, isn't it?
You move into a new place and everything is wonderful.
But then something happens - maybe a neighbour does something that's really annoying (2), or maybe something in your place that isn't as great as you first thought. Reality hits you - your new place has problems, just like every place!
I live in a super quiet building where most of us are 'mature' (or elderly!).
But it's not total silence!
Before Christmas, new people bought one of the flats. They wanted to do some minor work inside, so they put a sign up warning us that there'd be a bit of noise for a couple of Saturdays.
No problems. We all knew and organised our lives around the disturbance (3).
This year, another flat has sold. The new owners are making major changes. Not that we knew anything about it - there was just suddenly noise at 8:00 the other Saturday morning.
It wasn't too much of an issue for me - I was already up and soon headed out the door. They were still working when I arrived home a couple of hours later, but it wasn't that bad.
The sounds weren't bad, but being without hot water for hours was a real pain!
However, one older guy in the building wasn't so forgiving - I heard him telling the owners off for doing work without letting us know. It probably didn't help that he got home just before 01:00 in the morning!
Then a few days ago, I arrived home early from work. The builders were busy - I could hear banging from along the street!
It was worse inside — the sounds as they cut metal, the vibrations (4) as they used other tools (5).
I wasn't impressed!
However, there wasn't anything I could do and thankfully it wasn't long until they stopped work for the day.
It's nice being at work at the moment - getting out of the house before the noise starts. It'll also be a relief when it's finished and time at home is quiet again.
Do you get annoyed when there are loud noises around you? How about if you're trying to work - what do you do? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts...
Have a peaceful week,
Andrea
(1) refuge - safe place, a place that gives protection from danger (Note - a refugee is someone looking for a refuge).
(2) annoying - drives you crazy, but in a bad way! Makes you a bit angry.
(3) disturbance - something that interrupts you, sudden loud noise that isn't 'normal'.
(4) vibrations - continuous little 'shakes'
(5) tools - 'things' builders or mechanics use - hammers, saws, drills etc.
