Hello ,
One thing about big city life - I am constantly amazed by the different people performing live in the street for money (busking - they are buskers).
I've seen a few guys who show their incredible control of a soccer ball - kicking and flipping it in the air and then catching it, for example, on the back of their neck.
Others are acrobats. Somehow they manage to balance on top of a stack of things that is resting on a curved surface, like a big ball. I really don't know how they can do it without falling!
For the last 4-5 summers there has been a person in the Römer entertaining the children (and some adults!) with bubbles. Zillions of bubbles! And some of them are huge 😯.
Maybe because I play the piano, I always check out the buskers who are musicians. And there is a range of talent to listen to.
For a while along the Zeil, there were two different guys who played 'drums' which were actually household things like a plastic bucket, a saucepan and whatever else, with saucepan lids for cymbals. It was very creative and I was impressed with how they kept changing the rhythm, so that it wasn't boring for people to listen to.
Other regulars are saxophonists, violinists and flautists (1). A pair of older ladies appeared a while back. They played violin and 'cello. At first they played quite softly and didn't seem very confident. But over the months that I watched them, they relaxed and their confidence grew.
One guy that I often saw played piano accordion. He was really good! His version of 'The Blue Danube' almost had me waltzing as I walked past (and I don't dance!).
But my favourite buskers at the moment are a group (family?) who play xylophones. There is the 'Dad', the daughter (about 12 years old) and son (a couple of years younger). They play pieces that are classical, not modern, and they are great 👏.
Do you stop and watch or listen to buskers? Which ones are your favourites? Are there some that you really don't like? I'd love to hear your thoughts and stories.
That's it for this week.
'Bye,
Andrea
