Have the transport strikes affected you, {{contact.first_name}}?

Hello ,

We've had three days lately where most of the public transport hasn't been available. It's been an interesting time...

The first day, I had a class at 7:30 a.m. and walked to the U-Bahn station as usual. The escalator (1) wasn't working, so I walked down the stairs. When I was about half way down, I saw that the station was closed πŸ˜‘.

The day before I had read that the airport services would be disrupted (2) and even noticed an update that the union (3) wanted to widen the strike. So I didn't try and walk to the nearby S-Bahn station, I just started walking to class.

It would be close, but I thought I could do it.

At Bockenheimer Warte, the tram station was empty, so I kept walking.

There was someone at a bus stop I went past, but I didn't know how long until the next bus, or the route it would take.

With the skyscraper in view, I cut through some back streets and made it to the reception desk by 7:28. Whew 🫑.

Because I thought everything was on strike, I walked home.

The next strike day, I knew the S-Bahns were running. But on the day, I completely forgot about the strike and walked to the U-Bahn station 😬. As I had left home early, it wasn't a problem - I walked to the S-Bahn station and caught the next one.

(Embarrassingly, I did the same thing on the way home - forgot and went to the U-Bahn platform at Hauptwache and when I was down there, remembered the strike!)

Then last week, there was no public transport at all. Amazingly, I remembered!

The morning wasn't so different - I normally walk to my 8:30 class. But then I had to remember to walk from there to inlingua. I did and it all went to plan.

But I have heard that people are now nervous about holiday plans at Easter. Will there be another strike? Will they be able to travel as they have planned? Should they go by car?

Are you travelling at Easter and if so, are you worried about another strike? Have you decided to travel by car so that you aren't caught in travel chaos? Let me know you thoughts and if you have changed your plans at all...

Happy Easter,

Andrea

(1) escalator - a set of stairs that move

(2) disrupt - to interrupt, or to throw into chaos

(3) a (trade) union - a group that fights for the rights of workers, e.g. Verdi
