Native American warbonnets

For a Native American warrior his or her story was written in their feathers. Respect, honor, loyalty, freedom, truth, wisdom, fertility, trust, power and achievements were all displayed proudly in a feathered headdress.

Feathers were almost a language of their own. For example, a feather placed upright on top of a warrior’s head indicated he had captured an enemy—one for every captive. A feather angled by 30º – 40º proclaimed that the owner had taken one or more scalps. Feathers set low on the head signified battle leaders. Find out more here:

‘Starts fast and runs hard

Thank you to everyone who has picked themselves up a copy of Redding’s Fandango – the reviews have been great:

“The story starts fast and runs hard. Six-shooters, Winchesters and Bowie knives are the tools of the trade and they get well used. If Sol didn't have bad luck, he would have no luck at all. This story brings the non-stop cowboy action all the way to the end.”

The book is also now available on major ebook retailers - or check out the extra special edition containing exclusive content and a story epilogue not available from other retailers, delivered by Bookfunnel, and readable on any device.

Did you know?

The cowponies of the 1880’s were four-year-old mustangs that lived on the open range, survived on grass, and rarely topped 12 to 14 hands. They weighed 700 to 900 pounds -- compared to today’s modern horses that are 14 to 16 hands tall and weigh more than 1,000 pounds.

Aberrants

I’m proud to recommend some great speculative short fiction that came across my desk – Aberrants: Short Stories, by Mitchel Luthi.

Here’s the story (spoiler-free!):

"Speculative, weird, and layered with insight into the strangeness of existence, Aberrants is a collection of eleven unforgettable stories published here for the very first time.

In Kharkiv, mysterious eyes sprout from the walls of buildings as the Russian invasion of Ukraine intensifies. A cynical spacefarer on a paradox-chasing mission confronts an ancient star—and the limits of human understanding—while his sentient navigator may know more than it’s letting on. A man mistakenly receives a letter meant for another drawing him into the world of a lost tribe who believe writing itself is a sin against God."
