Howdy pard,
Come inside and take a load off – it’s great to see you again. I kept a spot at the bar for you – the beer ain’t much but the whiskey will put a twinkle in your eye. First one’s on me!
I’ve been busy – I found a pile of free books for you to pick and choose from. Take as many as you like – they’re included in with your whiskey there. I’ve also dug up some eye-opening background on those Cheyenne Dog Warriors I’ve heard so much about – those guys aren’t to be messed with. There’s an update on the all-American cowpony, and more on the pursuit of justice across the Old West – sometimes the law is on your side, and sometimes it ain’t. We’ve all been there, right? I’ve also got a great recipe for those newfangled Cowboy Corn Ribs the ladies in the town auxiliary were raving about – check it out. Finally, I’d like to recommend a western that came across my desk the other day – I won’t spoil the story for you here, but it's well worth the money.
That drink of yours is empty – how about another? As my ol’ grandpa used to say, “don't kick a fresh turd on a hot day”.

Cheyenne Dog Solders
Of all the typical Plains tribes, the Cheyenne were amongst the most feared. When settlers began heading West, they hoped not to encounter the warlike Cheyenne – they were preeminent warriors among peoples whose trade was war.
And of all Cheyenne warriors, the most feared were the ‘Dog Soldiers’, who wore one of the most striking outfits of any Old West fighting force — upright feathered war bonnets. Find out more about why Dog Soldiers were so feared by settler and outlaw alike:

Did you know?
The cow ponies of the 1880’s were four-year-old mustangs that lived on the open range, survived on grass, and rarely topped 12 to 14 hands. They weighed 700 to 900 pounds -- compared to today’s modern horses that are 14 to 16 hands tall and weigh more than 1,000 pounds.

Wild West justice
The history of the Old West is full of myths and stereotypes, but the truth about justice in the West is often more complicated - and more unsettling. Violence plagued the American West. Settlers faced rising numbers of illegal acts as people poured into the frontier searching for new lives, while sheriffs, marshals and other lawmen were often thin on the ground – or could even go bad!
Communities without official law enforcement had to handle justice on their own. Find out more about how people in the Old West handled justice here:

Cowboy Corn Ribs
Cowboy corn ribs are strips of corn on the cob, barbecued and full of spices to have an aromatic taste. They are super quick, easy and delicious to prepare, and will pass muster with any posse of hungry cowpokes. They are also known as corn riblets, because they are easier to eat than your traditional corn on the cob. Cowboy chef Kent Rollins will show you how to make easy cowboy corn ribs!

Conquistador treasure
I’m proud to recommend a great western adventure that came across my desk –Snow Falls Soft on the Hidden Valley, by Marcus Williams - it's well worth the money.
Here’s the story (spoiler-free!):
Clancy Peters was only hoping to strike some luck on a newly purchased mine claim outside of Buena Vista, but the town, or more particularly its tyrant, Dane Sampson, had other plans for the lone cowboy. On the run from a mob of Sampson's goons, Peters finds a hidden valley deep in the mountains, where the MacNeil family, also victim to Sampson's greed, has built the foundations of a peaceful life. This peace is shattered, however, as Sampson and his men become hungry for more land, hidden conquistador treasure, and revenge. As winter descends on the mountain, Peters and the MacNeils must prepare to defend the hidden valley—and their lives.
