Howdy pard,

Tae a breath, stop what you're doin’ and grab yourself a cup of joe. There’s coffee on the boil and nothin’ needin' doin’ that can’t wait another moment or two.

It’s great to see you again. Not only do I have a passel of free books to choose from, but I can also tell you all about the history of cowboy boots – they go back a lot further than you think. I can tell you about the embalmed body of outlaw Elmer McCurdy, and I’ve got a great recipe for Bison Tenderloin – Buffalo Bill’s favorite.

Hold up - your coffee mug is empty. Here, help yourself to more, or as my ol’ grandpa used to say, ‘you’ll be as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs’.

The history of cowboy boots

The cowboy boot story is as long and winding as the Goodnight Loving Trail. They often have more personality than the cowpoke wearing them.

Cowboy boots are more than just footwear – they are a way of life. And no high-falutin’ fancy words or dictionary definition will ever capture just what the cowboy boot meant to those who rode across the Old West.

Like a cowboy, they were tough. Practical. Reliable. Took punishment without complaint. And just like a cowboy, they could be more than a little rough around the edges. Find out more here:

‘Smell the dust, fear and cordite’

Thank you to everyone who picked up a copy of Redding’s Fandango – the reviews have been great:

“…starts with an excellent opening scene where the reader can almost smell the dust, fear and cordite in the air as Red tries, and fails, to stop a herd being rustled. Bullets and bodies fly as he tries to get the sheriff to solve the crime only to find himself accused of involvement in the very event he tried to prevent.”

The book is also now available on major ebook retailers, or check out the extra special edition containing exclusive content and a story epilogue not available from other retailers, delivered by Bookfunnel, and readable on any device You can find it here:

Did you know?

The unclaimed body of outlaw Elmer McCurdy was embalmed and sold to a traveling carnival to be used as a sideshow exhibit. For sixty years, McCurdy’s body passed from one haunted house or wax museum to the next. It wasn’t until one of his limbs fell off that people realized he wasn’t just a prop.

Dustbowl Disappearances

I’m proud to recommend a great western adventure that came across my desk – Dustbowl Disappearances, by Axl Blaze.

Here’s the story (spoiler-free!):

In the village of Guymon, Evelyn's world is turned upside down when she meets the alluring Walter Davis. Amid the swirling dust and simmering tensions, their forbidden attraction ignites into a passionate affair that threatens to consume them both.

But when ancient traditions and dark rituals come to light, Evelyn must choose between her love for Walter and uncovering the truth that could tear them apart. With each tantalizing caress and smoldering glance, they dance on the edge of danger, their hearts and bodies intertwined in a dangerous game of passion and power.

In a world where love and lust collide, will Evelyn and Walter's romance be consumed by the very secrets they keep, or will their desire prove strong enough to weather the storm?

Bison tenderloin - cowboy food

This was Buffalo Bill Codys favorite recipe - Bison Tenderloin with Horseradish Brandy Sauce. Cowboy chef Kent Rollins shows just why Buffalo Bill had a thing for this Old West delicacy.
