Howdy pard,
Come on in, sit yourself down. I can see you’re busy – but take a moment to breathe. The rest of the day can take care of itself. I’ve got the coffee boilin’ and the bacon sizzlin’ – that plate there is yours.
Before I start, don’t forget to check out my packhorse over there. It’s loaded up with free books and novels of every type – thrillers, mysteries, and all types of historical fiction. Help yourself – they are all free, take as much as you want.
While you look I’ve got some great updates to share about Calamity Jane – you know, the lady who was sweet on gunfighter Wild Bill Hickock. There’s also a report on Fort Griffin, Texas, the town that puts the wild in Wild West, if you know what I mean. I’ve also heard tell of a cowboy who is so good with a lariat he can make it sit up and beg. Will somethin’, he said his name was.
Anyway, finish up that bacon – I’ve got a shot of whisky to follow it up and put some color in your cheeks. As my grandpa used to say, “a halo only has to drop a few inches to become a noose”.

The enigma Calamity Jane
Better known as ‘Calamity Jane’, the legendary Martha Jane Canary knew fame as a sharp-shooting, tobacco-spitting, whisky-guzzling and foul-mouthed reprobate who regularly wore men’s clothes and engaged in fearsome gunfights across the Old West.
However, other reports about Calamity Jane show a woman who was never extremely violent, could also be kind and charitable, tended to the sick, and cared about her daughters, before dying impoverished and ravaged by alcoholism.
As is usually the case, the truth is somewhere in between. Find out more about Calamity Jane right here:

Did you know?
The West was never wilder than it was in Fort Griffin, Texas. The town was built at the intersection of the West Fork of the Trinity River and the Clear Fork of the Brazos River in the north part of Texas. The fort was originally designed to protect the ranchers and farmers who lived in the settlement nearby. The town quickly became a popular stopover for cowboys and outlaws, and by 1870 law-enforcement became almost non-existent as a result of continuing skirmishes with bands of native warriors in the north. As a result, the town got even rougher, with the likes of Big Nose Kate, Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp passing through.

Will Rogers, the ‘Ropin’ Fool’
Here's something a little different. I found an old silent movie of Will Rogers in his prime, playing 'The Ropin’ Fool'. It is 20 minutes of the greatest rope tricks you are ever likely to see. It has everything from lariat tricks to slow-motion footage of Will making that darned rope almost sit up and beg.
There’s one trick where he throws a lariat around the back of a galloping horse and successfully snares the front hooves from the other side…. Just jaw dropping. Here's a highlights clip. Sit back and enjoy.
