Howdy pard,
Phew, what a month! Thank you to each and every one of you who picked up a copy of my new western Redding’s Ace – I’ve been overwhelmed with your feedback. If you’re yet to grab a copy, why wait any longer? You won’t be disappointed.
I hope life is treating you well – grab a cup of joe and sit yourself by the fire. I’ve been busy – I’ve found a wide selection of books (both free and highly discounted) that you might enjoy – feel free to check them out. I’ve got scuttlebutt on the ‘gun that won the West’, as well as gossip about wild camels roaming Texas and miners finding their fortune via hydraulic mining. I’ve got a documentary about the life and times of one of America’s favorite Old West artists, Frederic Remington, as well as a recipe for cowboy chicken lollipops.
Dang, your cup is empty – let me top it up. As my ol’ grandpa used to say, ‘silence is sometimes the best response’.

The gun that won the West
It was carried by Custer’s men at Little Big Horn, was favored by generations of outlaws and lawmen alike, is Arizona’s official firearm, and is still being produced more than 150 years after its introduction. It’s fair to say that no gun in the history of the Old West has left a mark as deep as the Colt Single Action Army revolver.

‘Action-packed’
Thank you to everyone who has picked themselves up a copy of Redding’s Ace – the feedback has been wonderful. Here’s just one review:
“This is a witty and fun cowboy tale that races along at a frantic pace and really feels like watching an old western movie or one of the TV shows of my youth. Think ‘Rawhide’ or ‘Bonanza’ or even ‘High Noon.'’”

Did you know?
In 1855, the federal government used funds to buy and ship camels from Egypt. It was thought that they would do better in the heat than horses would, making missions and exploration easier. When the Civil War broke out several years later, many camels escaped and bred, leaving hundreds of feral camels roaming the wilds of Texas today.
The Essex Curve
I’m proud to recommend some great historical fantasy that came across my desk – The Essex Curve, by Conor Bender. The author blends historical authenticity with gripping action, capturing the emotional and physical battles faced by young pilots in one of World War II's most pivotal aerial conflicts.
Here’s the story (spoiler-free!):
“August 1940: Pilot Officer Ian Faraday and his wingman, Michael King, arrive at RAF Hornchurch full of enthusiasm but woefully unprepared. Under the relentless guidance of seasoned Flight Lieutenant McKenzie, they endure rigorous training designed to simulate the brutal realities of aerial warfare. Facing the Essex Curve—the critical turning point every novice must surpass—they learn that survival hinges on far more than skill alone.

Documentary: Old West artist Frederik Remington
The art of Frederic Remington defined the American West during his lifetime and played a major role in creating the popular image of the West that persists today. In both painting and sculpture, he portrayed the action and drama of the West.

Did you know?
Early placer miners in California discovered that the more gravel they could process, the more gold they were likely to find. Instead of working with pans, sluice boxes, long toms, and rockers, miners collaborated to find ways to process larger quantities of gravel more rapidly. First used in Roman times, hydraulic mining became the largest-scale, and most devastating, form of placer mining. Water was redirected into an ever-narrowing channel, through a large canvas hose, and out through a giant iron nozzle, called a "monitor". The extremely high-pressure stream was used to wash entire hillsides through enormous sluices. By the mid-1880s, it is estimated that 11 million ounces of gold (worth approximately US$7.5 billion at mid-2006 prices) had been recovered by hydraulic mining.
Cowboy chicken lollipops

With just a little prep before you put them on the grill, these snacks you can eat with one hand will knock your off your feet.
