Howdy pard,
Top of the day to you! The Pony Express has just dropped off a bag full of gossip, and I can’t wait to share it. I've got good news, there’s some tomfoolery, and maybe even a storm looming on the horizon.
Just let me brush the dust from my boots and I’ll meet you at the bar. Oh heck, the next drink’s on me.

The Gaslight Gunslinger
I’m proud to recommend a great western I read recently – The Gaslight Gunslinger, by Sugar Lee Ryder.
Here’s the story (spoiler-free!):
1878: San Francisco’s changed from a Gold-Rush era boomtown into a bustling city full of money, bawdy houses, and a loose sense of the law.
Enter Matthew Slade, formerly the Pinkerton Detective Agency’s best gun-hand, investigator, and tracker. No sooner does he arrive at San Francisco’s stockyard than he rescues Mai Lee, a little Chinese girl, from a pair of thugs intent on kidnapping her.
Can a gunslinger used to the open plains and prairies of the West deal with the criminal underworld of a crowded metropolis? Even with the help of a sea-captain and a pair of bawdy-house madams, the odds are long at best!

Will Rogers, the Ropin’ Fool
I waste far too much time watching Youtube videos, but occasionally I find something that makes it all worthwhile. Yesterday was one of those days.
I found an old silent movie of Will Rogers in his prime, playing The Ropin’ Fool. It is 20 minutes of the greatest rope tricks you are ever likely to see. It has everything from lariat tricks to slow-motion footage of Will making that darned rope almost sit up and beg.
There’s one trick where he throws a lariat around the back of a galloping horse and successfully snares its front hooves…. just jaw dropping stuff.

Did you know?
The unclaimed body of outlaw Elmer McCurdy was embalmed and sold to a traveling carnival to be used as a sideshow exhibit. For sixty years, McCurdy’s body passed from one haunted house or wax museum to the next. It wasn’t until one of his limbs fell off that people realized he wasn’t just a prop.

Spaghetti western… well, almost
After a hard week in the saddle, there was nothing more a cowpoke enjoyed more than getting cleaned up and heading into town to blow off some steam. First item on the agenda - whisky. Second item on the list: some good eatin’.
When it comes to good eating, it’s hard to beat ‘cowboy lasagne’ - a traditional Italian dish with a cowboy twist!
Genuine cowboy cooking legend Kent Rollins can tell you more; Get the cowboy lasagne recipe by clicking here, watch Kent cook it up by clicking here!
Happy trails,
Nick
