Howdy pard,
Happy New Year! I hope you painted the town red and gave the sheriff hell. Well, not too much hell - he's a decent sort of fellow, and loves sharing a bottle, if you know what I mean...
I'm kicking off the new year with a whole pile of great books, and now you can too. I've got not one, not two, but three whole collections of free fiction novels for you to pick and choose from today, along with a book giveaway which I think you'll really enjoy. I'll give you a hint - Vikings!
I've got the latest gossip about that liver-eating mountain man John Johnson, some news about the new wave of train robberies happening in the area, and a finger-licking recipe for Smoked Shotgun Shells.
Where’s that bartender? Yes thank you, make mine rotgut - I'm a bit short on coin. As my grandpa used to say, “Behind every successful rancher is a wife who works in town".

The Silver Goblet
I’m pleased to recommend a free Viking novella, about courage, honor and consequences, that I discovered recently – The Silver Goblet, by Ole Åsli and Tony Bakkejord.
It’s a great story: A young man lays a daring plan to prove himself for a Viking Jarl. Ulv leaves his boyhood home, aiming to impress the Jarl and prove his father wrong. Stealthy and cunning, he sets out on a daring mission to demonstrate his worth. However, the quest does not go the way he hopes, and the young man soon finds himself in trouble. Lots of trouble.
Can he survive in the brutal world of the Vikings?

John “Liver-Eating” Johnson
John “Liver-Eating” Johnson was a mountain man in the very best traditions of the Old West. He started off as a sailor, but his seafaring career ended after he floored his commanding officer while enlisted in the Navy.
At times he was a scout, soldier, gold seeker, hunter, trapper, wood hawk, whiskey peddler, guide, deputy, constable, and log cabin builder. However, Johnson is perhaps best known for his exploits against the Crow. His wife, a member of the Flathead tribe, was killed by a young Crow brave.
This prompted Johnson to embark on a revenge vendetta against the tribe the likes of which have rarely if ever been equaled: https://nickbrumbywesterns.com/john-liver-eating-johnson/

Did you know?
The first robbery of a moving train was staged by the Reno Gang in 1866. It was one of the greatest heists in history. The gang boarded the train and forced the messenger to open one of the safes. They pocketed $18,000 worth of cash and jewelry and during their escape took a bigger safe, which they were unable to open at the time. It was too heavy, though, and the gang abandoned it where it lay. Two years later, in 1868, six members of the Reno Gang were lynched and hanged on a tree. That site is now called Hangman Crossing, and they were buried in Seymour, Indiana.
