In the Flow

I went on a business date today.

I go on one three times a week.

The woman I met today told me a story I want to share with you.

It's a story about Quakers and what they do when they have to make a really important decision.

They meet somewhere, wherever Quakers hang out when they need to make really important decisions. The person with the decision to make sits in the middle and his peers surround him.

He describes his dilemma and they ask questions.

Only questions.

They can't give any advice, they can only ask questions.

Until he knows what he really wants.

The story she told was of a man who wanted to know if he should become the head of a local bank.

The questions his peers asked him helped him to understand that what he really wanted was to get his picture in the local paper.

They asked him if there may be a simpler way to address that desire.

What a genius practice!

I live to have people tell me stories like this.

It made my day.

You know those short little links, instead of the long ones? Bit.ly helps you make those. What's really great is that you can customize those links so that they include a phrase you want. For instance, the link to this week's podcast is bit.ly/karateforbusiness . If you're going to make less than fifty of those a month, the service is free.

Hoping to always stimulate your bottom line,
