6 Amazing Animals You'll Find In The Riviera Maya 🌴🐒

We all love being at the beach all day, feeling the sand on our feet and sipping tequilas at night. 🍹 Nevertheless, our land is also known for its variety of species. In fact, Mexico is home to more than 200.000 animal and plant types!
In accordance with last week's World Wildlife Day (March 3rd), we’d like to introduce 6 animal species you could encounter while on vacation in the Riviera Maya and Cancun ⬇
Coati
These incredible little animals usually come in a herd: if you see only one surely it’s the one that’s guiding them, so stay still and you’ll probably see many more. You can find these cuties in areas with lots of vegetation, like the jungle or your vacation home garden 😂 If you'd like to enjoy an accommodation with a nice garden and maybe see some Coatis there, check out our All-Inclusive Vacation Rental Platform here!
Iguana
This reptile can be found all along the Riviera Maya and is an excellent rock climber. They camouflage quite well in the vegetation or on the rocks, but you’ll still be able to discover them for example around the Mayan Ruins of Tulum and sunbathing at the cenotes. Beware: if they feel you're getting too close, they will run away immediately🦎💨 Want to visit the Tulum Archaeological Site? We are ready for you!
Spider Monkey
These amazing swinging specialist are named after their spider-like appearance when they're hanging from their super strong and long tail. Here in the area you can find this species in the depths of the jungle, at the Restaurant "La Cueva del Chango" (no kidding!) or in the Akumal Monkey Sanctuary. We can buy the tickets for you and send them right to your vacation home!
Jaguar
Did you know that no two jaguars in nature have the same pattern of spots? They are like people's fingerprints 🧐 This giant and unique feline represents the Mayan Culture and is called "Balam" in this area. Sadly they are in serious danger of extinction so chances of you seeing one are very slim, but not impossible (some have seen them from the top of Cobá Ruin's Pyramid). If you do see jaguar cubs in captivity being exploited for pictures, we kindly ask you to not contribute to this type of business. Instead create some beautiful memories by having some photos taken of you and your family on your lovely vacation!
Whale Shark
They're very big and imposing, but you're in no danger of getting eaten since they feed on plankton and fish eggs! Don’t miss the opportunity to meet this unique species while you're visiting Cancun. Be aware: They're only in the area from May to September. Contact us and we’ll make this adventure a reality!
Dolphin
See these smart and curious creatures in absolute freedom at Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. Book a tour, enjoy this wonderful experience and celebrate World Wildlife Day!
🐝 loQsea Tip: When booking your accommodation in one of our luxury homes, among other benefits, your stay will include a tour! Book now and meet some of these amazing species of our country!
Remember to not contribute to the exploitation of wildlife by taking pictures with caged, stressed and/or animals held in captivity!
