Summer is here and Mexico is experiencing very hot weather, with temperatures rising to more than 32 Β°C (89 Β°F) π₯΅ The heat will continue into July and August, dear BeeFriend! Follow these easy tips and avoid ruining your vacation due to a heatstroke. Keep reading!
π What is a heatstroke?
Itβs the most extreme form of heat illness and occurs when the body is incapable of controlling its own temperature.
β οΈ Symptoms
- Feeling unwell even after drinking plenty of water and resting in a cool place
- Feeling very hot, but not sweating
- A temperature of 40 Β°C (104 Β°F) or higher
- Breathing too fast or being short of breath
- Confusion, poor coordination
- Headache, nausea, or vomiting
- Loss of consciousness
Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency; if you think you or someone else may be experiencing a heatstroke, seek immediate medical attention! Call 911 or visit local emergency services.
π Prevention
π¦ Keep hydrated with non-alcoholic drinks
π₯΅ We know that in Mexico it's really hard, but try to avoid hot spicy foods
π₯ Use appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the sun -like UV protection long sleeve shirts- and favor light colored cotton or linen clothes.
π§΄ Make sure you protect yourself from sunburn with high SPF biodegradable sunscreen
π Wear a hat that covers your head and neck
β Avoid peak sunlight hours (11amβ4pm)
πΊ Reduce alcohol consumption under the bright sunshine
πΏ Take cold showers as regularly as you can
