What was your last delicious meal?
We can all agree that food is one of the most amazing things to enjoy 🤤🍦🍕🌮... and today we celebrate: World Food Day!
Celebrated every 16th of October since 1979, this year's theme is "Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together." "Our actions are our future." Today we would like to bring your awareness towards obesity and malnutrition, and suggest a few practical actions you can take to reduce food waste and practice a more conscious consumption.
Did you know?
- 14% of food produced for our consumption is lost each year from where it is grown until it reaches the wholesale market. Additionally more food is wasted at the retail and consumer stages 🌱🛒
- Obesity rates in children have tripled since 1970; 1 of 3 children and teens (2-19 years old) in the U.S. is overweight.
- Nearly 690 million people around the world suffer from hunger. The COVID-19 pandemic could add between 83-132 million people to this number.
What can I do TODAY to help?
- Make a donation to help people in need from our community with a "Despensa" (Basic Food Basket).
- Plan ahead & buy only what you need in order to reduce waste. We can help you make your planning part easier!
- Consume more fresh and local foods that nourish your body! Find some local restaurants and great local stores.
