Mexico always finds a reason to celebrate and this week, in a Covid-Free world, the “Posada” Season would've started 😷 !

What is a “Posada”?

“Posada'' translates to Inn or Lodge, although for us here in Mexico it means 'another Mexican party before Christmas 🕺'. Usually the Posada-Season starts 9 days before Christmas Eve, and families and friends get together to commemorate (and sometimes literally reenact) Mary and Joseph’s pilgrimage to Belem. Everybody sings, enjoys a warm meal with (of course) some tequila and the famous piñata 🎉 !

Want to organize your own private and small Posada at home? Here are 3 "ingredients" you can't miss:

  1. Mexican Fruit Punch: A hot drink with Mexican seasonal fruits such as tejocote, sugar cane, tamarindo, apple, guava, pear and cinnamon sticks. The adult version includes a touch of alcohol such as tequila or rum 😅
  2. Tamales: Made of steamed corn dough filled with chicken or beef meat, cheese and vegetables; all wrapped and cooked in corn husks or banana leaves. A very popular meal during this holiday season.
  3. Piñatas: The most expected part of the night! Traditionally the Piñata should have 7 points to symbolize the seven deadly sins. Nowadays no matter the number of points, the piñata should have tons of candy, including peanuts and fruits which represent the pleasures of life 🍊🍎🍭
