November Is Flying!

Halloween!

Hi Fantastic Fantasy Reader!

It's hard to believe it's Novemeber already! The holiday season will be upon us soon, ready or not. Are you ready? I'm certainly not.

I'm still working on The Winter Fae's Bride but thought I'd share a passage from one of my favorite scenes so far. Below is a scene from Chapter 7. I hope you enjoy it!

Excerpt:

Jane’s heart tripped in her chest at Ellohen's proximity, but her intrigue surpassed any fleeting attraction or fear. Though she’d probably regret asking him, she nodded for him to go on.

“I believe you need a husband.” He paused for a moment, whether because of hesitation or for effect, she didn’t know.

Truthfully, she didn’t care.

White noise filled her ears, so she barely caught what he next said.

“And I have need of you.” His gaze never left her face.

“Husband?” A numb sensation seeped through her. “You want to find me one?”

“Yes.”

“How do you propose to do that?” She shook her head, dazed. “As of right now, I have no prospects, no coin, no social position. Few human men of any means would want to marry such a woman. I refuse to marry a poor farmer who is merely looking for a workhorse and broodmare. Remaining here forever would be a much more preferable fate!”

“Your husband would be no human but a fae of the Holly Court.”

A snort of amused disbelief escaped her as she side-stepped him. “Why would any fae male wish to marry me?”

The fae mirrored her motion. “He would have his reasons.”

“I bet he would.” And they’d be none she would trust. What he was suggesting was insanity. She should leave. Though she was no longer frightened of this fae, a healthy dose of wariness was still there.

“He would treat you kindly, and you would want for nothing.”

She planted her hands on her hips. “Why do you care? What is in this for you?”

That must’ve struck a nerve because he shifted from one foot to the other. Though he curtailed the action right away, she braced herself for his next words.

“I have a vested interest and stand to gain much.”

That told her nothing more than what she’d already deduced. Suddenly, she remembered the dreams he’d given her. All along he’d been planning to hand her over to another fae, yet he’d had the audacity to make love to her in the mindscape. What kind of person did that?

A lecher.

She dug her toe into the ground to keep from kicking him either on the shin or in a more sensitive area. “So that was your plan the whole time? You stumbled upon me in the mindscape somehow and decided to not only marry me off but also have a little fun by seducing me? Why did you even make yourself hazy if you were going to reveal yourself like this?”

By the time she finished her tirade, her insides were quivering with fury.

His lips parted as if he were surprised. Then his mouth closed, and he shook his head. “You assume things that were never my intent.”

She pasted on her most disdainful expression. “If I didn’t know better, I’d say you were the fae in question that needs to be wed.” As if.

One platinum brow flicked upward. “You have surprising intelligence for a human.”

“Is that what passes as a compliment for a fae?” Then his true meaning sunk in. “Wait. You?” She gaped at him, but he seemed completely serious. “You want us to wed? Are you insane?”

“Nay, cursed.”

She didn’t know whether to be offended or confused. “So you want to spread the ‘wealth’ of your curse?”

“I want to cure it.”

“Finally, a rational answer, but what does it have to do with me?” As he’d so kindly told her, she couldn’t even properly harness her magic. There was nothing she could do for him.

“Everything.”

“What does that mean?” Exasperation made her snappish. “Speak plainly!”

His gaze slid upward toward where the sun hovered. “In due time. I must go, but think upon my proposal.”

“Oh no, you can’t just drop something like that on me and leave.”

He glanced back at her. “Will you be there to greet the delegation tomorrow?”

“What?” She shook her head at the change in conversation. “If I am able.”

“Make sure you are able.”

His audacity never failed to astound her. “Sir, that’s not up to me but my stepmother.” She was sure she knew the answer, though. A huge, resounding no.

“I see.”

She doubted he truly did.

“I must go.” His gaze drifted upward again.

She peered into the sky but saw nothing. Even squinting didn’t help.

However, the sun did sear an important fact into her. She was late with the fruit. Frances would have her head if she didn’t return right away.

Swallowing thickly, she turned back to the strange fae, only to gasp. He’d vanished as if he’d never been there.

However, a basket—her basket—rested before her, replete with apricots.
