Here’s a practical routine to use before your next job interview.

Start with the role

Read the job description and identify the three things the employer needs most.

For each one, choose a real example from your experience. Write down the situation, what you personally did, and what changed as a result.

Practice the follow-up questions

Don’t stop after preparing your first answer. Ask yourself:

• Why did I choose that approach?

• What alternatives did I consider?

• What would I do differently now?

These follow-ups help you move beyond memorized scripts and explain your decisions more clearly.

For coding interviews, explain your thinking

Practice describing your assumptions, comparing possible solutions, and checking edge cases aloud.

Getting to a working solution matters, but so does making your reasoning easy to follow.
