Deja Vu, All Over Again - Water Aerobics Edition
Stepping into my new water aerobics class, I had a strange sense of déjà vu. The pool was different, the year definitely different, but the instructor’s accent? Oh yeah, that was familiar.
Flashback to the late 1990s, when I was living in Russia and found myself in a water aerobics class led by a no-nonsense Russian woman who treated every session like Olympic training. I was a lot younger then (more than 20 years younger, but who’s counting?), and keeping up with her commands felt like a challenge I had to meet. No excuses. No slacking. Just work. Maybe that's why they took our blood pressure at the end?
Now, here I am, decades later, in a similar class—but with a few key differences. My new instructor still has that signature Russian directness, but she’s a little more easygoing. And the class? Let’s just say the energy level is more gentle movement than military drill. Many of my fellow participants are much older, and the vibe leans more toward "let’s stay active" rather than "push yourself to the limit." No need for blood pressure checks.
It’s funny how life circles back around in unexpected ways. The setting may change, the intensity may shift, but some experiences have a way of finding us again—just with a little more grace (and maybe a little less soreness the next day).
Listen to my Latest Interview!
Verena Rose, CFO and editor at Level Best Book, interviewed me for her podcast, Sunday Tea with V, about my Sherlock Holmes books and stories. You can learn about one thing most people don't know about me.

Coming Soon!
Belanger Books will soon offer a Kickstarter program for its new release, "Sherlock Holmes: Into the Fire." In 1908, Arthur Conan Doyle published a collection of short stories of adventure and mystery that were to be read "around the fire--" all without mentioning Sherlock Holmes.
This collection re-imagines the stories with Sherlock Holmes involved in the tale. My contribution: "The Adventure of the Black Diamond Brotherhood" provides a sequel to "The Story of the Lost Special." The story opens eight years after a train traveling from Liverpool to London mysteriously disappears, along with everyone on board. Now a criminal, Herbert de Lernac, claims to know who arranged, and how, the train vanished. The plot was politically motivated and he plans to expose those involved if his sentence is not commuted. To prevent an international scandal, Mycroft enlists Sherlock Holmes (and of course, Watson) to contain the situation and uncover the truth.

Gregory North knew the stolen jewelry had been taken to the EZ Pay Pawn Shop to be pawned, even though no one had yet mentioned where the jewelry had been taken. Therefore, North must have been the one to take it there.
