Marcus Initiative

Marcus Rashford (he that forced a Govt U-Turn on school break free school meals) and Tom Kerridge, have got together for a marvellous new initiative. I admire both individuals hugely. Every week, they will be posting a new recipe on IGTV. This weeks was a satay stir fry and is properly frugal! I was hopeful, but not holding my breath. So many so called budget meals just aren't budget at all.

Can't wait for next weeks! Well done chaps!

Dodgy Knee Update

It's been 6 weeks now since I injured my knee. I went to see an osteopath a fortnight ago and saw her again this afternoon.

She has the most amazingly strong fingers and knows exactly where the restrictions are!

I had been conscientiously stretching my hamstrings to try and ease the stiffness and pain behind the knee, and always made sure to stretch them after a run. She said that it wasn't the hamstring, but the quads that were under stretched and pulling the knee out of alignment, and that it would have been coming on for some time.

This makes complete sense as I haven't been able to reach round to do a quad stretch for years. So all my careful stretching was making it worse!

I got a non-stretchy yoga band to help and am hoping I can stretch my way out of it.

The muscles had eased off a bit when inspected today, and it definitely feels quite a bit better. Can't wait to get out walking again! And then, ooh, a run!!

Growing Mushrooms

My daughter bought me a box of grow your own mushrooms for Christmas. I carefully followed all the instructions and was very excited to see some tiny mushrooms emerge.

And look at them now, just 3 days later!

I'm going to have some of them tonight, fried in butter, with a duck breast and some salad. Yum!

New Printer

I was about to print out a document from my laptop when the printer suddenly flashed, displayed Chinese characters on the little screen, followed rapidly by the blue screen of death. Oh damn!

So I had to rapidly get a new printer. I opted for an Officejet 8012. So many printers, when I was looking at the specs, had the fact that they were a thermal printer hidden away in the small print. And they were very very insistent that they wanted me to sign up to Instant Ink, which is something you pay for monthly and they estimate when you next need ink. There is a monthly page limit, and they reckon it is much cheaper. I didn't fancy it, at all. But my goodness, they did go on about it! Have you got Instant Ink, and if you have, how are you finding it?

Greenhouse

All is going well in the greenhouse. These are the baby courgette plants

These are some mixed cut and come again salad leaves

And the same, but a different mix. I'll put both of these out in a square metre and they'll keep us going in salad all summer

One of the tomato plants, really starting to get going now

I've managed to keep this going all winter. It was on a windowsill until recently. I'll be putting it outside as soon as the frosts have gone. It was a tiny off-shoot last year and has put on all this growth since last summer!

YouTube

I've decided I really need to do some more YouTube videos and made one to go with this vegetable muffin recipe. I did this recipe as a group I'm in have been meeting via Zoom. We all cook the same thing, then meet online, show each other our makes and discuss the recipe. This one worked so well, I thought it would be a good one to write about, and to film myself making it.

Such a lot to learn about blogging! I find it all interesting and absorbing, and I'm always looking to the next stage, the next improvement, the next idea. I need a several copies of me to do all the things buzzing around in my head!

I've also filmed the making of broccoli stalk and cauliflower stalk shreds. Need to edit and add titles etc now. Takes me a long time to do it, but I'm getting quicker

Vegetable Muffins

These vegetable muffins are very light and taste delicious.

Would be lovely tucked into a lunchbox, or enjoyed alongside a bowl of delicious soup
