Eek - germs!
Spent a lovely evening with my daughter and her husband on Saturday, only for her to text on Sunday to say that she had tested positive for Covid! Eek!
I've only recently got over one of the horrible chest infections doing the rounds. They seem to be extra virulent at the moment, whether that's because we haven't had infections for a few years so we're more vulnerable, or something else, I don't know. Either way, they're horrible.
My cookery group is due to come tomorrow, so I'll test in the morning to make sure I'm still negative. I googled and it takes 2-14 days, so even if I'm negative tomorrow, might still get it. I'll have to test again every few days. Fingers crossed!
Singing With The Choir at The Pink Cabbage
There is new eatery opening in Heathfield - The Pink Cabbage, moving from the nearby village of Mayfield. The Cake and Wine Club Choir helped to celebrate their official opening by singing. There was a big group of us, so we were outside as the inside of the shop couldn't house us all.
We were singing lively gospel songs so we could keep warm as it was pretty durned cold. Plus other things from our now extensive repertoire.
We all wore something pink for the name of the shop - difficult, as I don't wear pink as it doesn't suit me. I eventually found a large pink'ish pashmina and some pretty pink trainers with sparkly bits on them.
It's a lot of fun and a very supportive group - we all look after each other. Heathfield is such a lovely place to live.
Lashes and Brows
Because of my cold, I couldn't go to get my lashes topped up after the usual interval as I was still infectious. Then Sally was booked for another 2 weeks, so by the time I went I had none left at all. I felt bald!
My skin has changed over time, and if my hair was that elegant steel grey, I would let it be itself. But it isn't, it's a very unflattering faded mouse that makes me look much older. So I colour my hair with a £7 pack of colour every 6 weeks or so, and get my lashes stuck on, brows coloured and waxed and it makes me feel good, and I think, look younger.
This time, I also splashed out on an expensive tube of Dermalogica moisturiser as my face has felt dry and red for a while. After using it for under a week, it is helping and my skin is looking much better. Less, sort of, stressed out.
Cobblers
We have a new shop in the town that is a proper old fashioned cobbler.
I have 2 pairs of black ankle boots that have been worn a great deal and the soles are now paper thin. I can feel every little pebble and my feet get quite sore if I wear them for very long. I've put a pair of new insoles in one of them, but it hasn't helped much.
I took one pair in and asked if he could do anything with the sole, without much hope to be honest as they have that modern kind of built in sole.
He said, oh yes, I'll do this this and this with them - Thursday alright? Brilliant!
It cost £17, but it will give me a lot more wear out of them. They are real leather, so it's a lot cheaper than new boots.
The other pair has split one of its sewn seams as well and he said oh yes, that won't be a problem, bring them in.
Great, a very useful business to have locally. And he is right by Sainsbury's so should get a lot of people popping in.
What I've been making in previous March's
Easter is not that far away, so I'll try and find something Eastery next time. In the meantime, here are some tasty things.
Pea Crumb Fritters
Had a lovely play in the kitchen whilst creating this recipe using mushy peas and breadcrumbs.
Seven Family meals From One Chicken
This series uses 1 ordinary chicken and makes 7 x 4 portion main meals with it to use over the course of a week.
Sausage & Potato Salad
From our sister site and from one of the 2 monthly meal plans there
I published an ebook for meal plan 1 in August 2021 and am delighted that many people have thought it was worth getting. I repriced it again in June 2022 and it was still holding on, even in these scary times. Now we are in September and prices have shifted again and
I've managed to get my head around WooCommerce so I can feature it on the blog and you can find it here.
I was busy recooking, photographing and updating the recipes for Meal Plan 2 and putting them into an ebook as well. The meal plan was first written in 2013 and still prices up, which is fabulous and that is finally complete. The book is done now too, prices seem to be stable enough to do it.
I'm well into creating an e-book from the Stretch A Chicken To Last A Week series, hope it won't be long before it's finished. Got a couple of images to take, which means cooking the recipe, and 1 more recipe to write up.
Do come and say hello on the Fantastically Frugal Food Facebook group, or the Sensational Slimming Sustenance group. I'd love to see you. Lots of useful tips, recipes and ideas. The over 17,000 membership are brilliant, brimming with talent.
And don't forget Thrifty Lesley, where there are 800+ recipes of fantastically frugal food and many weekly meal plans. And Cheap Family Recipes where you can find all kinds of delicious things that don't cost much, with two family monthly meal plans.
I've also got a few YouTube videos up, not many yet, but I'm planning to do more. I've done a couple more, need to edit them now. So much to do, so little time!
With all best wishes, until next time
