Mothers Day

Both my girls had a nice day with their children on Sunday. Then I went down on the Monday to one of them to have an afternoon tea for lunch.

Well much to surprise, and delight, my other daughter was there as well, one of my grand daughters and the other grand daughter arrived after school.

We had a lovely lunch and sat around talking to each other, which was great.

A couple of hours after this picture was taken, we had to wrap up as the temperature dropped!

Ashburnham Place

Mike and I went for a lovely walk recently at Ashburnham Place in East Sussex. There are 220 acres of woodland to explore, all completely free. No dogs are allowed there, so no dog poop to negotiate.

The utter silence was wonderful, I could feel my ears relaxing.

The kitchen garden, shown here, wasn't open. I'm hoping it was because it was too early in the year. I do love a poke around a lovely kitchen garden!

On another occasion, I went there with one of my daughters and we had a rather wonderful cheese scone salad. I'm looking forward to going there again to see what it looks like at different times of year.

The Garden

The garden is springing to life. I have enjoyed the glorious fragrance of a Daphne and a Christmas Box.

Then several weeks of snowdrops and tiny pink cyclamen, and the small daffodil Tete a Tete are still blooming their socks off.

I've started off some tomato seeds in a heated tray and they are now 3 inches high. Got to nurture them for quite a while yet. I've been taking them out into the greenhouse each day to get the extra light. But they're tucked up indoors today - too cold!

Spiced Carrot Tart

image

This month last year, I made this lovely spiced carrot tart. It's filled with soft cheese, carrots, eggs and a few spices. Simple and delicious.

I wanted individual tarts that time, but of course, it could easily be made as 1 large tart.

Onion Bhajis

In 2020, I was exploring onion bhajis, my husband loves them and made these lovely crispy items.

Exploring all things leftover Banana

Bananas are one of the most wasted food items, so in this post, I explore many many ways of using them - including the peel!

Rubber Chicken

In 2019, I explored just how many portions I could squeeze from 1 ordinary sized chicken.

I need to repeat the exercise with other joints of meat!

An e-book

image

I published an ebook for meal plan 1 in August and am delighted that many people have thought it was worth getting.

I've managed to get my head around WooCommerce so I can feature it on the blog and you can find it here.

I'm busy recooking, photographing and updating the recipes for Meal Plan 2 and putting them into an ebook. It was written in 2013 and still prices up, which is fabulous. But the posts are embarrassingly bad and need a lot of updating! I'm getting on well with them again, having taken a break to do other things. It's taking me ages to do this one!

Do come and say hello on the Fantastically Frugal Food Facebook group, or the Sensational Slimming Sustenance group. I'd love to see you. Lots of useful tips, recipes and ideas. The over 17,000 membership are brilliant, brimming with talent.

And don't forget Thrifty Lesley, where there are 800+ recipes of fantastically frugal food and many weekly meal plans. And Cheap Family Recipes where you can find all kinds of delicious things that don't cost much, with two family monthly meal plans.

I've also got a few YouTube videos up, not many yet, but I'm planning to do more. I've done a couple more, need to edit them now. So much to do, so little time!

With all best wishes, until next time
