Cookalong

image

One of the things I go to is called Cookalong. There are 12 members and we all make something from a theme, take it along, then we all taste each others.

This months was near a members birthday and the Coronation, so we did 'Afternoon Tea fit for a King' and these are just two of the lovely morsels we got to try.

The top picture is Pistachio Meringue Kisses

and the bottom one is 21st Century Coronation Chicken vol-au-vents.

These events are always fun, and I just love trying other people's food.

New Fitness Class

image

On the Coronation weekend, there was an event at our Community Hall, and amongst many other things, there was a stall showcasing a new fitness class. They were opening a new one literally at the top of my road. It's called BoostFit and it's modern moves to a banging beat.

I checked if there was any floor work, as I am pretty unfit, and I might be able to get down there, but I wouldn't be able to get back up again without the use of a chair to lean on! No, she said, no floor work. Great!

I've been twice now and really enjoyed it. Plenty of room for me to improve my fitness. That's 1 session a week, need to find 2 other things to do regularly now!

In The Garden

image

I've put the runner bean plants out and they are already trying to wind up the canes. The picture is a couple of weeks old now.

The outdoor tomatoes have been put in my lovely new planters. And I added two courgette in a massive pot, and a pumpkin in a pot with lots of canes. I'm hoping the pumpkin will climb the canes. And I put the basil seedlings in with the tomatoes, and the parsley plant in with the courgette.

I cleaned out the greenhouse a few days ago and planted up the pots in there for the tomatoes.

My husband has had several rhubarb crumbles from the rhubarb in the garden. One of his favourite things and one of the things he looks forward to all winter.

The rest of the garden is a weedy mess and rather overwhelming. I try to do a bit at frequent intervals but it's still getting away from me. Oh well, not that important in the scheme of things!

What I've been making in previous May's

Chocolate Scones

image

My husband was desperate for chocolate one day when I didn't want to go to the shops, so I came up with these chocolate scones - they were really good with a blob of cream and cherry jam, or just on their own!

Lemon Peel Jam

image

Not a recipe I made in past May's, but one I made last week. I had several squeezed and zested carcasses of lemons, and a couple of lime ones too. That lime made the flavour a bit different, and just as lovely.

This is made using lemon remains that would otherwise just be put in the bin.

An Authentic Spaghetti Carbonara

image

Pecorino is the defining taste of a carbonara, see if you can get some. You might need to visit a deli, supermarkets often don't have it. You don't need much.

If you can't find it, use Parmesan instead, it's still really good.

I published an ebook for meal plan 1 in August 2021 and am delighted that many people have thought it was worth getting. I repriced it again in June 2022 and it was still holding on, even in these scary times. Now we are in September and prices have shifted again and

I've managed to get my head around WooCommerce so I can feature it on the blog and you can find it here.

I was busy recooking, photographing and updating the recipes for Meal Plan 2 and putting them into an ebook as well. The meal plan was first written in 2013 and still prices up, which is fabulous and that is finally complete. The book is done now too, prices seem to be stable enough to do it.

I'm well into creating an e-book from the Stretch A Chicken To Last A Week series, hope it won't be long before it's finished. I've just got a little left to do on it, but haven't got to it for ages now, hoping to finish it soon.

I've also got a few YouTube videos up, not many yet, but I'm planning to do more. I've done a couple more, need to edit them now. So much to do, so little time!

With all best wishes, until next time
