What's been happening

Well here we are in July, the longest day is behind us and the days have been long and hot.

I went away to Chiddingly with my daughter, in her campervan, last week for a couple of nights. It's a lovely site there. Super clean and tidy. It is surrounded by their own woods, left to do their own thing, so full of plants and insects. They also have several areas laid out as a wildflower meadow, with paths around the outside and through the middle where you can walk. We saw lots of butterflies when we were there. Went back refreshed and relaxed, just what I needed.

After saying for years that he wouldn't, my husband has said that he wouldn't mind a campervan, but of course it's more complicated now there are 3 of us, and the 2 cats to be looked after somehow as well. But you never know, we might get something - exciting!

I've been enjoying Wimbledon this week. I really got into the first Alcaraz 5 set thriller match. How they played for that long in that cauldron of heat without collapsing with heat stroke I don't know!

Every year, I watch as much of it as I can and really enjoy it. And yet, I don't watch any tennis at any other time, which is a bit weird, especially as I love to watch other sports, especially football, and especially the women's games.

My grand daughter, who lives with us now, has finished college for the summer. In the autumn she will be starting an arts course which sounds fabulous. They have a 3D printing room, a pottery studio, numerous textile options and multi media painting etc. She's going to love it!

Over the next few weeks, I'll be taking her on the bus to the college to practice, so that she can catch the bus on her own when term starts. Hopefully it will work out as the relevant bus is not super reliable!

I hope you are enjoying this super weather and not finding it too hot.

Hidden Veggie Pasta Sauce

image

Most people, including veggie-phobes of all ages, seem to like tomato pasta. If you cook and whizz in a mix of other vegetables, it’s a good way to get more of a variety into people.

This hidden vegetable pasta sauce is very tasty and is pretty easy to make. Make a big batch and freeze it in portions for a super easy dinner.

Easy Poached Pears Without Alcohol

image

I made these rather wonderful easy poached pears without wine today when we had guests for lunch. I thought I’d see if I could frugalise the recipe. I have described these as with no alcohol, although I realise that the process of simmering a wine based poaching stock down to a syrup would boil off the alcohol anyway

Chicken Pizza with Onions and Peppers

Pizza is one off the worlds favourite foods for at least 1000 years, loved, and made, by millions. Pizza toppings can make a meal from little things leftover in the fridge, or as here, from chicken left after a roast.
