Canning Adventures
Remember me talking about this pressure canner? I ordered one from America as we can't get them here. Well, it's arrived and I've been having lots of fun playing with it and finding out about preserving generally.
I made some sultana cake, baked it in some beautiful preserving jars and got the lid on when it was red hot from the oven. Husband loves it and is working his way through them.
I also pressure canned some Asian chicken using a recipe from a canning book. It has a lovely flavour and I'll see if I can frugalise the recipe for cooking in the usual way. Husband tested a can, straight out of the canner, then wanted it again the day after, and the day after that! So I'm taking that as a hit!
Flooring
We're having all the downstairs floors done, so there is stuff stuffed everywhere at the moment. We've waited a long time to get to this stage. It will be lovely when it's done, but the upheaval is unbelievable!
There is just 1 room left to do now, my office. Dreading it. It's booked in for next Friday, then thank goodness it will all be over and we can start putting things in their proper places.
This is what the sitting room looked like this week!
And our old bedroom
And this is part of the new floor. I'll take some more pictures when we can actually see the floor! The grey part has been levelled and the floorlay has now been laid there too. We're on the home straight!
Reverse Advent
Instead of opening a little window and perhaps enjoying a little chocolate each day in December, for 25 days in November, each day I will be donating an item for a local foodbank.
I found out what they needed before getting these. More tinned meat is needed, and jam, so they're next.
Then a few seasonal treats and I'll be done
It's a lovely thing to do, especially now when so many have been hit hard with Covid related income reductions. Food banks shouldn't exist, but thank goodness they do.
Books I've Read Recently
Wondering what to read next? Here are some lovely books I’ve been reading lately, and enjoyed. I’ve read 3 Claire North books, and found out how you might be immune to HIV/AIDS
I read many many books, these are a selection
When I've got the kitchen back, and I'm not heaving lumps of furniture about, I hope to find the time to do some YouTube videos. I've lots of ideas on what to film!
With all best wishes, until next time
