In this short newsletter, I share the most interesting things that I’ve read, heard, and/or watched over the past week.

I ate some questionable food during week and came down with food poisoning. I was either on the toilet or in bed for the past couple of days. Therefore, this is the very first Saturday Thoughts post!

What I’ve Read:

The Secret of Surviving Cancer | The Atlantic

This is an engaging story about the author’s experience with cancer. I enjoyed the story’s theme of going against the ubiquitous idea of having a positive attitude when dealing with illness. I also found the introduction of the story hilarious. There seems to be nothing worse than unsolicited advice.

What I’ve Watched:

why do windows have to be so boring | Simon Giertz

I enjoy seeing designs come to life in the physical world. It is one of the main reasons I chose to be a structural engineer. Simon Giertz does an excellent job showcasing this in her videos.

I loved that this video showed the ups and downs of her window project. I am also amazed by the video editing tricks in the introduction.

What I’m Pondering:

“You’ll stop caring what people think about you when you realize how seldom they do.”

David Foster Wallace

This quote reminds me to stop worrying about what other people think. I am probably not as important to other people as I imagine.
