Hi there!

As we close out the year, I just want to thank you all for reading and supporting me in this journey. I hope you enjoy the long weekend and take some time to reflect on the blessings and growth that have come this year. 🙏

🧠 LEARN

        The Challenge

I've built plenty of websites in my lifetime.

But the process of building a website is still complex enough that it discourages me from bringing my ideas to light.

What if building a website was free (other than the $15 or so it costs to buy a domain name) and took less than 60 minutes to set up?

        Resources

🌐 Fruition: Free, Open Source Toolkit for Building Websites with Notion

First of all, shoutout to Jakob Greenfeld for sharing this resource with me. He shared it with me after I asked him how he had made a website for free using Notion.

For those of you who haven't heard of Notion, it's an all-in-one tool that brings together:

  • notetaking (like Evernote)
  • databases (like Airtable)
  • and Kanban Boards (like Trello)

It's pretty powerful. But it's also very intuitive. You can quickly build very simple pages in it.

Examples? The Fruition resource above was created completely in Notion. And I used Notion to create a simple website for inourimage.co.

There are basically three steps to creating your "free" website:

  1. Build the page(s) you want in Notion
  2. Buy a domain. I recommend using something inexpensive like namecheap.com (most domains are under $15/year and you might be able to get one under $5)
  3. Follow the steps from Fruition to connect your domain to the Notion page.

If you create a website using this method, let me know. I'll shout you out in the newsletter 😊.

        Insights

It is easier than ever to bring your ideas to light.

If, like me, you don't know how to code, there are plenty of "no-code" tools that let you build pretty incredible things.

I had thought about building a website for In Our Image for years.

Tools like Notion and Cloudflare have made it possible for me to create a sufficient version of the site for free in less than 2 hours.

The best part is that once you launch, you can share it and see how people react. If they don't like it, then you can modify or kill it. It only cost you the time equivalent of a few episodes of Game of Thrones. 🤷‍♂️

If people react positively, then you get more motivation to keep growing. 🤗

I got positive reactions to the Tones database I built and that motivated me to also create the daily bible verse newsletter.

Every time you launch something, you add more evidence to your identity of being a creator!
